3 Day Munnar Itinerary & Places To Visit

Here is a concise itinerary for your trip to the beautiful hill station of Munnar, Kerala! I have listed 12+ places to visit in Munnar in this article. I have also linked some great properties in 4 different budget ranges to help you choose from some options and my recommendations.

I believe that at least 2 to 3 days are needed to enjoy and explore the beautiful hills, tea gardens, waterfalls, lakes and culture of Munnar, and a 4th day here could open some exciting new adventures!

3-Day Munnar Itinerary & Places To Visit

Day 1

  • MATTUPETTY DAM
    This is a huge dam tucked between the hills of Munnar. You can go speed boating and pedal boating on this dam with great views. You can enjoy some snacks from local vendors and street shopping while taking in the breathtaking views of the dam.
    Timings: 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM | Boating: INR 150 onwards
  • ECHO POINT
    On one of the banks of the Mattupetty dam, is point where the topography creates a distinct echoing sounds. Hearing the clear echo is quite a surprising feeling.
    Entry: Free | Timings: All day
  • KUNDALA DAM
    Another dam with a park on its shore. You can kayak and go pedal boating at this dam too. There is a market full of vendors and food stalls outside the dam. A great spot to unwind and enjoy nature.
    Entry: Free | Timings: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM | Pedal Boating & other activities : INR 100 onwards
  • TOP STATION
    This is a view point which has a watch tower overlooking a huge valley with a steep drop, and a lot of vendors and food stalls outside.
    Entry: INR 20 | Timings: 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM
  • BOTANICAL GARDEN (Post sunset)
    Best visited post sunset when the lights are turned on. It is pretty cool with nice walkways, structures and display of plants perfect for a evening stroll.
    Entry: 20 INR for Adults, 10 INR for kids | Timings: 9am – 9pm

Day 2

  • SUNRISE JEEP SAFARI RIDE TO KOLUKUMALAI HILLS
    The highlight of this trip is the jeep ride to Kolukkumalai Hills for a stunning sunrise view. Departing at 5 AM from Suryaneli for Rs 2500, the ride takes you to one of the highest tea plantations in the world.
    Cost: Jeep Ride – 2500/- per jeep. | Permit – 500 INR per jeep. | Timings: All day, starts at 5:30 am | PoC: Multiple operators available. You can ask your property to also organise this, or reach Suryanelli jeep point and find a jeep on the spot.
  • LOCKHART TEA GARDEN AND GAP ROAD
    You can visit these beautiful tea gardens and then visit the tea factory. If you have visited any other tea factories or gardens, this will be a similar experience and not worth trying again. Gap Road is one of the most scenic roads in Munnar between tea plantations with panaromic views. Best visited around sunset or sunrise to enjoy a spectacle of colors.
    Entry: ~ INR 250 for museum and garden tour | Timings: 7 am – 6pm
  • ANAIRANKAL DAM
    A very scenic dam surrounded by tea gardens. A great spot for spending an evening, walking by the lake side. Boating has been paused here until further notice.
    Entry: Free | Timings: All day
  • ZIPLINING AT RIPPLE WATERFALL
    A cascading wide waterfall with a small park with facilities and food vendors around it. A few operators offer activities like Zip Lining and Zip Roller coaster from above the waterfall. Water levels are low in hotter months and swimming is not permissible.

  • KALARI KSHETRA SHOW AT 6 PM
    A must visit experience of Kathakali and Kalari Payattu which is one of the oldest forms of martial arts is performanced everyday. Limited tickets available at counter.
    Entry: 200 INR per person, per show | Timings: 5 PM Kathak Show, 6 PM Kalari Payattu Show, Daily.

Day 3

  • SUNRISE TREK TO CHOKRAMUDI
    This can be done as a sunrise trek with the forest guide. You can reach the base camp at 5 AM and do the trek to the top. A great spot with 360 views all around and a perfect view of the sunrise. Trek takes about 3-4 hours total and is of moderate difficulty.
    Entry: 400 INR per person | Timings: 5:30 AM
  • ERAVIKULAM NATIONAL PARK
    This national park is home to Nilgiri Thars, a wild goat endangered species of this region. Take a guided trail through the forest area. A buggy facility is also available and the park stays closed during Feb – March for breeding season of goats. They also offer a short trek through the forest to a waterfall that is open through out the year.
    Entry: INR 200 onwards | Timings: 8 AM to 2 PM (closed in Feb & March)
  • LUKKOM WATERFALL AND SEE THE ANAMUDI PEAK
    The only waterfall where you are allowed to take a dip in across Munnar. The falls has a small forest dept. run canteen as well to snack on with proper bathrooms and changing room facilities for tourists.
    Entry: INR 50 | Timings: 8:30 AM to 4 PM

    The Anamudi is the highest peak of Western Ghats and South India at 2700 m. You can admire the view on your route this waterfall. Entry inside the peak is not permitted.
