Day 2

  • NAMDROLING MONASTERY
Established in 1963, it is the biggest teaching center for the Nyingma lineage of the Tibetan Budhism. It is a home to more than 5000 monks and nuns providing food, accommodation and teachings throughout the year. Main temple houses 3 statues, with Budha Shakyamuni at the center, the founder of Budhism.
    timings – 9 am to 6 pm
  • DUBARE ELEPHANT CAMP
You will have to cross the river in order to reach the elephant camp. Depending on the season either you will have to do the river crossing on foot or by boat if the water level is high. And you can do various other activities like bathing elephants, feeding them, taking a selfie etc. at nominal costs.
    timings – 9 am to 11 am and 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm | entry – ₹150 | feeding ₹50 | bathing ₹300
  • CHIKLIHOLE RESERVOIR
The water overflow from Cauvery river flows in this reservoir. We went during June and the water had just started to barely overflow. However, during monsoons it is a treat to watch the water flow in all its beauty. Given the crowd on all the other spots, this place sees very few people on any given day and is quite a peaceful spot for the sunset.
    timings – 10 am to 6 pm

Day 3

  • TADIANDAMOL TREK
The Tadiandamol Peak is also the highest point in Coorg at approximately 5700ft. It maybe a little far from Madikeri but the views from here are absolutely worth the effort. It is a 6km trek on each starting from the Nalknad Palace.
timings – 6 am to 6 pm (entry not allowed from check point post 2:30 pm) | entry – ₹250 per person
  • NALKNAD PALACE
The palace has a lot many stories associated with it, one of which is that last emperor of Halari family Chikaverarajendra took shelter here when the British attacked. Unfortunately when we came here, it was closed, so if you are going especially just for the Palace make sure to check in advance if it is open or not.
    timings – 9 am to 5 pm
  • CHELAVARA FALLS
Chelavara Falls is a cascading waterfall falling in about 4-5 layers with lush greenery around. You could swim at the top of the waterfall when flow is relatively stable. But at the bottom they have barricaded and you can only look at it from afar. Best part about the falls is that very few people come here. And as a result we had the entire falls to ourselves.
