Wayanad Itinerary – Places To Visit in 3 Days

Here is a concise itinerary for your trip to the beautiful district of Wayanad, Kerala! With this article, I have also linked some great properties in 3 different budget ranges to help you choose from some options and my recommendations.

I believe that at least 3 days are needed to enjoy and explore the beautiful forests and hills of Wayanad, and a 4th day here could open some exciting new adventures!

3 Day Wayanad Itinerary

Day 1

  • SOOCHIPARA FALLS
    A peaceful and grand waterfall accessible by a short hike through a paved forest path. You can swim in the pool if water levels are safe. Only 500 people per day are allowed entry, and it’s first-come, first-served.
    timings – 8 am to 4 pm cost – INR 150
  • TEA GARDEN VIEW POINT
    This one is a short pit-stop on the road with tea gardens around you to take a stroll in. Phone numbers are given at this point if you want an official tour.
  • FLY 900 BOCHE 1000 ACRES PARK
    Enjoy the glass bridge, zip lining, flying bicycle and the giant swing here. I had an amazing time doing some of the activities here.
    timings – 10 am to 7 pm | cost – zip line 450 | giant swing 700 | glass bridge 250 (may vary, approx rate)
  • 1980S – NOSTALGIC RESTAURANT
    A classic restaurant serving delicious authentic Kerala cuisine. Enjoy the Sadhya and fish items here.
  • KARAPUZHA DAM (if time permits)
    At the bank of this huge dam, there is an amusement park with Kerala’s longest zipline and other high adrenaline rides. It also has children’s play areas, making it a perfect family-friendly destination with a beautiful view of the huge water body at sunset

Day 2

  • CHEMBRA PEAK TREK
    At 2,100m, this is Wayanad’s highest peak. The trek passes through tea estates, forests and grasslands, leading to the famous heart-shaped lake. Only 88 people are allowed per day to trek this. The queue starts by 5 am and tickets are sold as per the queue at 7 am. Overall, a great experience, but if you don’t get the tickets, then Cheengiri Mala is a great alternative because it costs only 50 rs.
    timings – 5 am queue, 7 am tickets (less rush on weekdays) | cost – INR 4000 per group of 5
  • PHANTOM ROCK
    A naturally forming rock structure in a stone quarry. It kind of resembles a human skull and makes for a captivating sight and view. It’s best visited early morning or later in the evening.
  • LUNCH AT JUBILEE RESTAURANT
    Great ambience with fine-dining options with multiple cuisines.
  • EDAKKAL CAVES
    A prehistoric wonder, Edakkal Caves houses ancient petroglyphs dating back over 8,000 years. You are rewarded with rock carvings depicting humans, animals, and symbols from all the way to stone-age!
    timings – 8:30 am to 4 pm | cost – INR 50 per person (only cash) | refundable deposit against plastic bottles of INR 20
  • SUNSET AT NELLARACHAL
    A local favourite sunset spot. You will find a Few vendors offering tea and quick bites here. You will also spot some lotuses growing near the banks, and it’s a nice spot to unwind at sunset

Day 3

  • LAKKIDI VIEW POINT
    It’s a point on the highway offering a stunning view of winding roads and often covered in a misty atmosphere.
  • EN OORU TRIBAL VILLAGE
    Here you experience the indigenous tribal heritage of Wayanad through traditional huts, art, and performances, offering an authentic glimpse into their way of life.
    timings – 9 AM TO 5 PM | cost – INR 50
  • HONEY MUSEUM
    A unique private museum dedicated to Wayanad’s rich beekeeping culture and honey processing through displays. You can also buy rich pure honey from here.
  • WILTON RESTAURANT
    Great serving of Malabari and Arabian dishes. One of the popular spots to eat in Wayanad.
  • BANASURA SAGAR DAM
    One of the most popular spots in Wayanad, it is India’s largest earthen dam, set against the backdrop of misty hills. You can enjoy speed boating with breathtaking views here

4 Day Wayanad Itinerary

These are a few spots that are less visited than the others because of the distance from the majority of the spots. They are almost 40 – 50 km away near the Coorg border.

Day 4

  • KURUWADEEP
    this is a river island known for it’s bamboo rafting experience. about 580 people are allowed per day to maintain ecological balance. it is a spot to be visited to experience a little calm and closeness to nature.
    timings – 9 AM TO 4 PM | cost – INR 220
  • SREE THIRUNELLI MAHAVISHNU TEMPLE
    A popular 1000-year-old vishnu temple. you reach the temple by driving through the forest, and it is situated in the foothills of the Brahmagiri hills.
  • THOLPETTY WILD LIFE SANCTUARY (optional)
    Located in the northern part of Wayanad, you can go for jeep safaris to spot wildlife like elephants, deer and birds.
    timings – 7am to 10am & 3pm to 7pm | cost – INR 2200 for jeep safari
  • IRUPPU FALLS
    A stunning waterfall on the Wayanad-Coorg border, a short 1 km trek through forest leads you to the falls. you can swim under it when water levels are low and safe.
  • BRAHMAGIRI PEAK TREKKING (optional)
    A thrilling 1 day trek of about 12 km. through dense forests and , grasslands, leading to the Brahmagiri summit, offering breathtaking views of Kerala and Karnataka.
    timings – 7 am to 10 am | cost – INR 2400 for group of 5
