This itinerary is provided by Sahithi Mallela

This is the itinerary that I followed for a 3-day trip to Mysore in Karnataka—starting from Bengaluru! It’s ideal to go to Mysore with friends/solo/family! It will give a good glimpse of everything to do and visit in Mysore!

This 3-day Mysore itinerary is a comfortable trip with good comforts, but not going overboard. It can be done in a budget of about INR 5500/- per person for 3 days in Mysore. (not including the to and fro transport from your city)

Best Way to Reach Mysore

I took the Wodeyar Express from Bengaluru to Mysore.

Bus Connectivity: There are frequent buses available to Mysore from Bengaluru and all other major cities of Karnataka, and also from Kerala/Tamil Nadu. Both private and state buses are available.

Nearest Airports: Nearest airport from Mysore is Bengaluru (150 Km), and other airports like Kozhikode are also 150 Km away.

Railway: Frequent trains are available from all major cities to reach Mysore.

My go-to stays in Mysore

I have visited Mysore almost 4 times and stayed at different places each time. My favourite stay is at Palace Hostel by Borrbo, for which I paid 600 per day. Price differs based on the days.

When I went with my family, I stayed at Roopa Elite, which is a luxury hotel. Price may be between 2k – 3k per day. This hotel has a restaurant available, and the food is good.

The other property where I stayed is Green Orchid, near the Infosys campus. This almost feels like you are staying in a jungle, which is a bit near Brindavan Garden.

There are many hostels available in Mysore, like Zostel, Roambay.

Food in Mysore

Every time I go to Mysore, I fulfil my cravings. Here are some of my favourites –

  • Vinayaka Mylari – (Nazarbad Main Rd, near Police Station) for breakfast.
  • RRR – (Gandhi Square, Near, Mahatma Gandhi Statue) for Lunch,
  • By the way – Dinner near Infosys Campus(I just love the food n By the way).
  • A lot of cafes are available on Gokulam Road near Palace Hostel.

3 Day Itinerary for Mysore

  • Freshen up and have breakfast at Vinayaka Mylari.
  • Start with Mysore Palace (100/- PP)- 10 AM- 5:30 PM. People there offer a Tonga ride for 1 hour or 30 minutes.
  • Head to St. Philomena’s church.
  • Have lunch at RRR
  • Head to Mysore Zoo(60/- PP) | Closed on Tuesdays
  • Head to Karanji Lake near the zoo, and do a boat ride (20/- PP). Need to pay extra for a boat ride.
  • Head to Mysore Palace for a light show(120/- PP) 7 PM to 8 PM
  • Have a nice dinner at By the Way restaurant
  • If you have extra time, you can visit Jaganmohan Art Gallery(75/- PP near Mysore Palace), Underwater Aquarium(nearby Zoo). The above places are all nearby; you can take Ola/Uber as well.

Day 2

  • Start your day by visiting Chamundi hills (One of the shaktipeetha and early morning might help with less crowd.
  • Lalith Mahal – (100/- PP)
  • Sand Museum – (60/- PP)
  • Wax museum – (60/- PP)
  • Car museum – (40/- PP)
  • Devaraja market for shopping. Mysore is famous for its Sandalwood(Cauvery Emporium) and silk sarees(KSIC Silk factory),

Day 3

  • Venu Gopala Swamy Temple (Beautiful temple surrounded by water in three directions)
  • Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary – 50/-PP. A drive of 20 km from the city (near Sriranga Patna)
  • Ranganathaswamy temple in Sriranga Patna
  • KRS Dam Brundavan Garden – 50/-PP (An evening would be magical here)

Bike Rentals & Taxis in Mysore

  • Royal Brothers and eZee are available here for bike rentals (starting from 600 per day – varies depending on weekends & Long weekends)
  • For the Car, we contacted Salim and he has arranged a vehicle for us. Contact Number – 9449666511.
  • City buses are available as well.
  • Ola, Uber is also available here, but the issue is that Brindavan Garden is not considered inside Mysore, hence Ola, Uber will not accept that location. It is better to take a rental bike/car or own vehicle.

My Xperience

Being in Bengaluru and surrounded by traffic, Mysore really feels calming. Also, this is my first ever trip, so the place is memorable for me. Mysore became my comfort place, and the food in By the Way restaurant is too good. I have been to Mysore during Dasara a well, but that experience is not that good. We went on the 10th day of Dasara, and you will not be allowed to go to the Palace as it is the last day of Dasara, and people bring the deity Chamundi Ammavaru to Mysore Palace on the day. You need passes to enter the palace, and there are categories like Normal Pass, VIP Pass. You need to book the tickets from the Mysore Palace official site. There will be a lot of crowd during these days, so it’s good to avoid on Dasara time if you are uncomfortable with crowds.
