Here is a concise itinerary for your trip to the Venice of the East – Alappuzha, Kerala, also known as Alleppey! I have also linked some great properties in 3 different budget ranges to help you choose from some options and my recommendations.

Ideally, 2 days are enough to enjoy the most of this beautiful backwaters destination, however, a 3rd day here could open some exciting new adventures!

2-DAY ALLEPPEY ITINERARY

DAY 1

• ALLEPPEY LIGHTHOUSE AND BEACH
  If you have an early check-in and you are in the mood to explore, then hit the Alleppey beach. There is a small old lighthouse that you can visit together.
• BREAKFAST/BRUNCH at the Breakfast Village or brunch at The Catamaran Cafe.
• HOUSE BOAT TOUR / 3-HOUR SHIKARA RIDE
  You can choose to explore Alleppey’s backwaters in 2 ways :
  A: THE HOUSEBOATS
  You can stay overnight in a houseboat, which you need to board by 12 PM. There are also day tours in these houseboats that drop you back by evening. Costs for houseboat tours in Alleppey start at about INR 5500.
  B: SHIKARA BOATS
  Alternatively, you can also do a Shikara boat tour through the canals of Alleppey that is at least 3 hours long. I recommend taking one around 3:30 PM to enjoy the backwaters and sunset. Contact this person to arrange for it if needed – 9895911071. Costs for shikara rides start at about 2400/-

DAY 2

• SUNRISE KAYAKING

• BRUNCH AT CAFE BORMA
  After your session, have a sumptuous meal. Cafe Borma is built very aesthetically in a home. The breakfast food and coffee here are wonderful.
• INTERNATIONAL COIR MUSEUM
  A one-of-kind museum showcasing Alleppey’s heritage of being the Coir Capital of India. Apart from the entire process of coir-making and its history, you also see impressive works of coir art.
• ST ANDREWS BASILLICA, ARUNTHAKAL
  A stunning 400-year-old church with spectacular facades and statues.
• SUNSET AT MARARI BEACH
  Relax and soak in the sand, sun and sea at Marari Beach.
• DINNER AT CATAMARAN CAFE
  To relax by the ocean and have a good meal, head to Catamaran Cafe near Alleppey Beach

3-DAY ALLEPPEY ITINERARY

If you have an additional day that you can spend in Alleppey. Then, your Alleppey itinerary will have the same first and second days as above. And these will be my recommendations for your 3rd day in Alappuzha.

• BREAKFAST AT CAFE PARADISO
• PATHIRAMANAL BIRD SANCTUARY TOUR
  This bird sanctuary is on an island in the middle of the Longest Lake of India – The Vembanad Lake. You visit to take strolls through nature and spot the variety of birds. To reach Pathiramanal island, you need to take a canoe or a speed boat to reach the island, and it is a thrilling ride if you opt for the speed boat. • AMBALLAPUZHA SHREE KRISHNA TEMPLE
  Dedicated to Lord Krishna, the temple is believed to have been built during the 15th century. The temple is well-designed, and its Payasam, made out of rice, has become quite popular amongst the devotees. (Closed between 12:30 pm – 5:00 pm.)
• LUNCH AT SEASHORE RESTAURANT
• SPA & MASSAGE AT SANTHISUKHAM CENTER
